We loaded our motorcycles on the truck and headed west into a vast wasteland with nothing but flatlands, big sky, small decaying towns, oil rigs everywhere, uranium mining operations, nuclear waste disposal pits ... and solar panel and wind turbine farms. Very interesting.
Had lunch in Big Spring where there is almost nothing but a tall 15-20 story skinny tower in the middle of town that had been abandoned since 1980 but recently renovated into a 65 room hotel ... in the middle of nowhere. Went in there for lunch but arrived late and the restaurant had closed. Very cool place.
Arrived in Carlsbad, our staging area. This is a big town with a touristy feel. Carlsbad caverns must be a big draw around here. Got bikes ready ... heard that there is a big uncontrolled fire in the Guadalupe mountains were we are going tomorrow. We will go investigate and report tomorrow.
The adrenaline has started to flow : )
